Punjabi Chana Dal Khichdi
This is a traditional Punjabi cuisine which prepared with two main ingredients, Bengal gram and rice for special occasions like lohri, sankranti and more Punjabi festivals. It’s a quick and easy recipe which you can prepare anytime for lunch or Dinner. It is healthy meal which you can be served with yogurt, raita or pickles.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Rice
- 1 cup Chana Dal
- 2 Green Chilli optional
- 1 tbsp Jeera
- 2 Bay Leaf
- 2 inch stick Cinamon
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 5-6 black pepper corns
- 3 cups Water
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- First rinse and soak the chana dal for 30 minutes in hot water. also rinse and soak the rice for 30 minutes. later, strain the chana dal of the water and keep aside.
- In a pressure cooker add Ghee and heat it medium for 1 minute.
- Add Bay Leaves, Black Pepper Corn, Cinnamon stick and Cumin.
- Cook for 1 more minute.
- Add soaked Dal ,stir and then add 1 cup water.
- Cover the pressure cooker with its lid and pressure cook for 1 whistle or for about 6 minutes in instapot normal pressure cook.let it depressurize by itself.
- Drain the rice and add the rice and garam masala to the cooked dal.
- Cook for 1 whistle if big cooker. If you are using small cooker give 2 to 3 whistles,if using insta pot select rice mode or 12 min pressure cook mode.
- Let it depressurize on its own
- Serve the chana dal khichdi steaming hot with yogurt or raita.
